It's 2006 already. Went for the countdown at the esplanade. First we went for a steamboat dinner at kallang, the same one we went to the last time. This time, we ordered tiger beer instead. Yep. Actually to tell you the truth, I don't really like beer very much. It's just that...forbidden fruit always tastes nicer. Haha.
After dinner, we went to the bridge between the esplanade and fullerton. It was about 9.15pm when we got there. Camped there for about 3 hours haha. The crowd was terrible. And they blocked up quite a number of places. The fireworks didn't disappoint. Didn't mind waiting 3 hours to see fireworks. However, I did mind the crowd after it was over. Had to squeese my way all the way to Raffles Place MRT. Took a train to Orchard and tried to wait for a bus. After a while, I realised that the bus was probably not going to come. So I took the next bus which came, no. 16, to Grange road and walked to the borders bus stop.
Tried to hail a cab there, to no avail. Every single one which drove past was either hired or on call. Phone had died by then. Was almost panicking. So I asked some lady at the bus stop who had her phone out whether I could borrow her phone to call home. She insisted that she dialled the number for me. Then I asked my mum to pick me up haha. After that, the lady started talking to me.
She said she was a tour guide, something about a how she wanted to go to a place at novena for countdown but her mother I think didn't want to cos got no parking. Then talked about dunno candles and some choir. Right. Then 111 came and she left with it. Yay. Went home at around 1.40am.
Today's my first day at work. Took 186 there. Was about half an hour early. When I got there, I tried to go upstairs, but found that the place was inaccessible unless you had a card. Then I took the lift down again, joined more people and went back up, found most of them waiting outside. At 8.30, someone went to fetch us in. Was quite surprised when I saw xiao ting there. And one or two others I knew.
Yay. I don't know why but I was shaking for the most part of the day before lunch. Either it was too cold or I was too nervous. Have to wear office attire everyday. Blah.
Oh yar, so they gave us an orientation. Briefing, then a mini tour around the 18th floor, then was introduced to people whom we couldn't remember. There were 13 of us in tax. Were split up into 3 groups, one of 3, one of 4 and another of 6. I was in the group of 4. Found that the room we were working in had a nice view. Yay. I can use a pentium III computer. Right... it's so slow, but at least I have a comp to work with. And I koped the comp beside the window! Though think most prob won't have time to enjoy the view once the work starts proper.
So they gave us a crash course on what they did at the firm and tax related stuff. Procedures, computer programmes and all. So many procedures, abbreviations and jargon. I'm still not very sure who are the people in charge of me. Have to ask tomorrow I guess.
Will be having a 2-day course just before CNY. After that, they said to expect to get really busy and stressed until april or so. Most probably have to do overtime as well to complete the work. Yay, how lovely.
Female-dominated work place. A few men lah. Only a few. Oh, the people there are quite friendly. Maybe it's because they haven't gotten stressed yet. Hope they'll stay friendly. Haha.
Yep.
The Christmas tree at the place is still up. Big Christmas tree.
